J-Pop Singers Vaundy and Cotton Candy Take Over The Opening and Ending Themes for the Anime ‘Sakamoto Days’
J-Pop singers Vaundy and Cotton Candy have sung the opening and ending theme for Sakamoto Days. Anime fans are well aware of how the themes add to the anime’s appeal and these two tracks certainly enhance the viewing experience.
Vaundy has sung the opening theme “RUN SAKAMOTO RUN.” Speaking about the theme, Vaundy says, “I aimed to convey the inspirational protagonist Sakamoto’s overwhelming, unmatched strength. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to record the song in London, which gave it a unique sound, making it a piece I can truly say I gave my all to. I hope the song ‘runs’ together with the manga, anime, and all of you guys!”
Vaundy is a 24-year-old singer known for his tie-in songs in anime like Ranking of Kings, Chainsaw Man, SPY X FAMILY and Doraemon. His track “Homunculus” was also featured on My Hero Academia. Collectively across YouTube and other subscriptions, his work has garnered over 8 billion views as of 2024.

For the ending theme, Cotton Candy sang the song “FUTSUU.” The group expressed their surprise and determination towards their first-ever anime tie-in song. Explaining the song’s meaning, Cotton Candy said, “Well the lyrics reflect Aoi’s feelings toward Sakamoto. They’re filled with warm and heartfelt words, so we hope you’ll take a moment to listen closely and feel the emotions in the song.”
Cotton Candy is a three-piece rock band that made its debut in 2018 with the song “Longskirt na habiite.” Since then, the band has had successful songs like “Fuzzy Navel” which was a viral hit upon its release in 2023, finding its place in Billboard Japan’s “Heartseeker Songs” list. The band released melt pop, its first full-length album in October 2024, which was followed by a nine-city, nine-show solo tour.
