Interview: Discovering TFN—Shattering Cultural Boundaries, Their Beloved Blooms, and a Glimpse into Their Promising Future
In an exclusive interview with TFN, the dynamic K-Pop group known for their captivating music and energetic performances, the members share their thoughts on their recent single, "ICE CREAM," and their dreams of breaking language barriers with their music.
TFN's journey has taken them across various musical landscapes, and their openness to exploring new languages and cultures is a testament to their commitment to their global fanbase. HALSUG: Your recent single, “ICE CREAM,” has a Spanish version. Are there any other languages you would like to incorporate into your music in the future?
Noa: I would like to release as many albums in any language as my fans want.
Kevin: We have released albums in Korean, Japanese, and Spanish so far. In fact, I think it was possible because there was a real opportunity and because of our Edelweiss. Personally, I would like to release an album in English.
Gunwoo: We've tried it in Japanese and Spanish, but we haven't tried it in English yet, so we want to try it in English!
Leo: Someday, I want to try singing all in English!!
On: Since I have experience with songs in Korean, Japanese, and Spanish, I hope I have the opportunity to show songs written in English as well. Also, since all the members are studying Spanish step by step, I think we will be able to present the next Spanish song with a slightly better quality.
Zero: I think it would be great to reach many Edelweiss around the world through songs in their respective languages, so I want to try many languages, not just Spanish and Japanese.
Kairi: Thankfully, I am receiving a lot of love and support from Edelweiss from many different countries, so I want to try various languages so that I can repay Edelweiss.
Kio: I'm currently studying English hard, so I want to challenge myself to have many conversations in English.
HALSUG: Do you have any funny moments or favorite memories from filming the “ICE CREAM” MV?
Noa: It wasn't in the music video, but what I remember most is jumping into the pool with all the members. I enjoyed it!
Kevin: The song's atmosphere is very exciting and has a party feel, so I think I was having a lot of fun while filming it without realizing it.
Gunwoo: It was great that the members danced together outdoors, enjoying the summer atmosphere!
Leo: The most memorable and fun time was going to the swimming pool together.
On: As you can see, filming took place in a location with a swimming pool. After filming, all the members went into the swimming pool and played for a while, and it remained as a very fun memory.
Zero: Personally, I think it was a lot of fun playing with the members in the swimming pool. It was memorable because it was my first time playing in the water with the members.
Kairi: My most memorable memory is playing in the swimming pool with the members during break time.
Kio: There was a swimming pool at the music video filming location, and I remember going in there and having fun for a while during filming!
HALSUG: Which of your songs best represents your personality and why?
Noa: I think the song “FLEX” raises the members’ tension the most.
Kevin: Personally, I think “FLEX.” The song has a very strong energy and is very addictive. Our members are also very talented and have strong energy, so I think “FLEX” is the one that shows our personalities and colors the most.
Gunwoo: I think it's “FLEX”! I think it's a song that shows that you can have fun on stage!
Leo: I like “ICE CREAM” the most and I think such an exciting song suits us well.
On: Personally, I think it is “FLEX.” Regardless of the meaning of the song, I think this music well represents the atmosphere, image, and energy that our team is aiming for. If I have the chance, I would like to show more of this style of music.
Zero: It’s “FLEX.” I think this is a song that well expresses our freedom and cool performance.
Kairi: Because our members are so passionate, I personally think powerful songs suit them well.
Leo: I think “FLEX” was the one where we were able to play like ourselves the most!
HALSUG: What is your favorite song that you have performed/written?
Noa: I think I like the song “BLOOM” because it shows off the members’ prettiest voices and it’s my first time doing it.
Kevin: Our team has members who compose/write lyrics: Noa, On, and Kio. I really like the songs written by the members and have different charms and fun to listen to! I think it's hard to choose just one.
Gunwoo: It's “Deep dive”! I picked it because it showed powerful rapping and dancing!
Leo: I think it's “EDELWEISS”!! I think it's my favorite song because it's TFN's first fan song and it's filled with a lot of memories!
On: My favorite song is “BLOOM” composed by Noa. It's a song with a color that our team has never done before, and it's one of those songs that makes me feel good every time I listen to it.
Zero: I personally like “BLOOM” because it has a beautiful feel.
Kairi: It’s “BLOOM,” “Deep dive,” “SLATE.” I think these are the songs that our members like the most and have meaning because they are songs that our members worked hard to create.
Kio: It's “SLATE”! I think it’s the most meaningful because it’s the first song I’ve ever released!
HALSUG: What do you enjoy most about being a K-Pop idol?
Noa: I think the most enjoyable and happiest thing is being able to receive love from many fans.
Kevin: The most enjoyable thing, above all, is interacting with fans and performing on stage! It is full of proud and truly happy moments. I am so happy as a singer thanks to our Edelweiss, who always gives us as much love and support as they do now.
Gunwoo: You can communicate with your fans and have a happy time on stage!
Leo: I think the most enjoyable thing was being able to meet Edelweiss from many different countries.
On: I think this is something that allows me to receive so much undeserved love from so many people. It's a happy experience that you wouldn't normally experience, and I think it motivates me to show a better side of myself.
Zero: As expected, I feel happiest and most enjoyable when performing and communicating in front of Edelweiss.
Kairi: I think I am happiest and most happy when I perform on stage in front of many people.
Kio: I think it’s the most fun during concerts!
HALSUG: If you had to describe the members of TFN with one word, what would it be?
Noa: If I were to describe our TFN in one word, I think it would be “free-spirited.” I think they thought we were free-spirited because they were able to feel the stage itself and run around freely.
Kevin: It's a rainbow. The reason is that each member has a different color and charm, so I chose them.
Gunwoo: Passion?? Because everyone is full of passion!
Leo: I think it is difficult to express our TFN in just one word. But I think the most fitting word is rainbow.
On: If I were to describe our members in one word, I would like to use the words “youth” or “freedom.” I am fortunate to be able to show the fans the process of everyone meeting at the most immature time, getting along with each other and becoming stronger, and the awkward but strong energy shown in the process, and I think that is what makes me love this team so much.
Zero: Now that we know each other so well, I think we can call them family.
Kairi: I think all 9 people have unique charms, so I will choose “individual.”
Kio: I choose “fire”! I think it’s because each member has a fiery passion!
HALSUG: Besides Edelweiss, what is your favorite flower?
Noa: I like roses the most. The reason is that they are colorful and pretty flowers, but their thorns are pointed and sharp, which is fascinating and appealing to me.
Kevin: I like roses. The reason is because I think it is a chic flower and the more you look at it, the more attractive it is.
Gunwoo: It's a dandelion! The dandelion flower itself is so pretty, but when it comes time to sow the seeds, the fluff-like appearance of the seeds is so pretty!
Leo: I think it's cherry blossoms. I've seen it often in Japan, but I think it's the prettiest flower ever!!
On: My birth flower is Moss Rose (Chae Song Hwa), and I think this flower is my favorite. It is said that this flower blooms at different times depending on the region, but this story gives me strength when I feel tired.
Zero: Myosotis. I like it because the color is so pretty!
Kairi : Poinsettia & Higanbana (Seoksan). I chose this flower because I remember seeing it as a child and thinking it was pretty and I asked my mom and grandmother for its name.
Kio: Cherry blossoms. I'm talking about cherry blossoms because I remember how there were always pretty cherry blossoms on the way to school in Spring in Japan!
HALSUG: Do you wish to have a world tour or even small concerts in other countries that you haven’t been to?
Noa: We are ready to run to any country where Edelweiss visits us.
Kevin: In fact, if I get the chance, I would like to go and perform right away if we have Edelweiss.
Gunwoo: Yes, I want to gain a lot of experience on many types of stages.
Leo: I really want to try it. Since there are many countries I haven't been to yet, I want to go and perform in more diverse countries!!
On: I like going to other countries I haven’t been to, and I also like performing in small theaters. I think my biggest dream as an idol is to show my music and stage to countless fans at a large concert hall, but I also think it's really attractive to work closer with fans and show a more free and simple side at a small concert hall.
Zero: If we have the opportunity, we would like to meet local Edelweiss through a tour in any country.
Kairi: I really, really want to do this. I would like to go see as many Edelweiss in as many countries as possible and express my gratitude to them face to face.
Kio: Just call and we'll run!
HALSUG: Since your debut, you have released many singles and mini-albums with amazing discographies. When can fans expect a full-length album?
Noa: I'm still in meetings and I definitely want to submit it!
Kevin: Our members are also very curious and looking forward to this, so if there is an opportunity to release it, we would like to prepare it well and reveal it to Edelweiss.
Gunwoo: Wouldn’t it be possible to see next year??
Leo: I always want to make good music for many fans, and I will work hard to release it as quickly as possible!!
On: All members also have thoughts about a full-length album. Of course, this is not something that is done solely based on the opinions of the members, so I will have to talk to many people who help me, but one day I want to show you a full-length album filled with good and confident songs.
Zero: We will do our best to repay Edelweiss for always supporting us and show it to you as quickly as possible.
Kairi: We also want to show Edelweiss a new side and a new song as soon as possible.
Kio: When we create a work that we are satisfied with, we would like to proudly return!
HALSUG: Any messages for Edelweiss?
Noa: I want to say that I always love and thank Edelweiss for always being by our side and supporting us. We'll be together until the end, I love you!
Kevin: This is Edelweiss’ Kevin. You have given me so much love and support since my debut until now! I want to say thank you so much. There may be Edelweiss who haven't seen more and met us yet, but we still have a lot of time and opportunities, so I'm looking forward to the remaining opportunities and times. So, I hope our Edelweiss won't be too upset, and if we keep walking together slowly like now, we'll go together until the day when we all face each other and perform. I love you so much and we're happy!
