On a hot July 10th evening, the Korean rock band The Volunteers treated Denver fans to a cool night of music on one of their 2024 North American Tour stops. Fans eagerly waited inside Denver’s Summit Music Hall for the night to kick off. Band members Yerin, Johnny, and Chiheon accompanied by bass player Seungjin took to the stage firing up the crowd. The members greeted and waved to their fans as they entered their first chords of “Velvet Glove” followed by “Crap” which had fans immediately singing and dancing along mesmerized by Yerin’s vocals, Cheheon’s drum skills, and Johnny’s guitar playing.

Yerin spoke to the crowd between songs thanking the fans for their love and support. With it being the band’s first time in Denver apart from Yerin’s time as a soloist, Yerin expressed how honored they were to perform in the mile-high city and hope to return. The group excitedly went into their next set of songs such as “Radio” and “Violet.” Yerin paused the show to ask the crowd if they would join her in singing “Happy Birthday” to a fan attending the show as she discovered it was his birthday during the VIP meet and greet. The crowd happily sang along with Yerin to the words of “Happy Birthday.” This turned the show into a more intimate night as you could tell the band truly cares about their fans.

Yerin again expressed how as a soloist Denver was her favorite city to perform in. She described that the venue she had played at was very small but the vibe was still hot. “I feel so supported here. Positive vibes. I hope I can come back.” She acknowledged that the band just released a new album and they are excited to play new songs for their Denver fans which segwayed into the group’s next song “Starfish On Your Head” followed by their latest EP’s title track “L.”

Captivating the crowd with melancholy lyrics and melodies, Yerin felt the love in the room and asked the fans if they’d take a photo so they could always remember this moment. The bandmates came together to pose in front of their loving Denver crowd and snapped a few photos. After this heartfelt moment, the members announced they only had a few songs left which received disappointed sighs from the crowd that didn't want the night to end. “Our next song is about summer. I hope you guys have an amazing summer,” claimed Yerin as they went into their song, “Summer.”

As the night drew to a close, the band left Denver fans with some of their higher energy songs such as “Tell ‘em boys,” “PINKTOP,” and “Medicine” where Yerin jumped and danced around the stage as Cheheon beat on the drums and Johnny shredded on guitar. With the show coming to an end, the members exited the stage waving to their fans accompanied by cheers and roars of admiration. Immediately chants erupted from the crowd demanding an encore. Yerin, Cheheon, Johnny, and Seungjin happily retook to the stage smiling with adoration for their fans. Yerin took a moment to properly introduce the band members. As the band not only performed one encore song, but two, consisting of “Hypocreep” and “Let me go!” the Denver crowd jumped along to the energetic songs in excitement.

The Volunteers left a long-lasting impression on Denver concertgoers. A magical night filled with fun, energetic, and cool vibes helped Denver beat the summer heat. The Volunteers still have many more North American tour stops coming up where you can catch their performance for yourself. What’s your favorite song by The Volunteers?
