NIKI Drops Summer Love Anthem “Tsunami” Ahead of Her Upcoming Album Release

If so, singer-songwriter and producer NIKI has released the perfect song for you with her new single “Tsunami.” This track came out on July 26, 2024, and is the third single off her upcoming album Buzz which is set to release on August 9, 2024 via 88rising.
NIKI draws a vivid comparison between falling in love and a roaring tidal wave in this song, capturing a sense of being unexpectedly swept off one’s feet and ready to embrace the rush. The lush and breezy soundscape is complemented by a grainy beach-side visualizer, featuring NIKI twirling gracefully in the sand. The track follows the astrologically-inspired “Blue Moon” and the flirty lead single “Too Much of a Good Thing.” With its evocative imagery and summer vibes, “Tsunami” emerges as the classical soundtrack for a summer romance.
NIKI’s journey to global stardom began in high school in Jakarta, Indonesia, where she wrote lovesick poems and performed acoustic covers on YouTube. Nicole Zefanya transformed into NIKI, claiming her place on the global stage. With over three billion streams, sold-out shows, major festival performances and contributions to a Marvel film soundtrack, she has built an impressive résumé before turning 25.
Her third studio album, Buzz, began as a profound internal upheaval, resulting in a collection of warm, stirring folk-rock songs. Reflecting on the album, the 25-year-old artist shared, “I went through an identity crisis. It took a lot of trial and error, and I just stumbled upon pieces of myself along the way. I named it Buzz because it feels like I’m on the precipice of something about to happen.”
The album showcases NIKI’s intimate songwriting, influenced by pioneering women like Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, and Carly Simon. To realize this creative evolution, she collaborated with producers Tyler Chester and Ethan Gruska, known for their work with contemporary artists.
