María Becerra Ends Her U.S. Tour in Houston
Fans waited for hours outside White Oak Music Hall in the pouring rain for María Becerra’s final U.S. show on her World Tour 24 in Houston, Texas. Houston fans had been waiting for her to visit the city since the release of her first album Animal in 2021. The Argentinian pop star and eight-time Latin Grammy nominee started the tour in March in her home country of Argentina where the tour will eventually come to a close. The tour included nine stops in the United States, including three stops in Texas alone, and is set to continue in Mexico.
Long before the lights dimmed to signal that the show was about to start, fans could be heard chanting María’s name as they eagerly awaited for her to take the stage. When the show officially started, María’s backup dancers took the stage, building momentum for the minute when she would finally come out and perform “LA NENA DE ARGENTINA.”
María immediately set the tone for the show with back to back dance tracks including “OJALÁ” and a mashup of “PERRERO FURIOSO” and “Wow Wow.” Throughout the set, both María and her dancers kept the energy going with their nonstop movement and impressive choreography.
It would be easy to forgive a performer that electric for not having the best vocal performance, but María was consistently showing off her vocal prowess. While all of her songs showcased her crystal clear vocals, during her more low-tempo songs like “AGORA” and “ASI LA VIDA,” she was able to pour all of her emotions into her singing and show the audience the extent of her range.
Aside from her immense talent in both singing and dancing, another thing that set María apart from her contemporaries is her pride in her heritage. The first time María stopped to talk to the audience, she asked if there were any fans from Argentina, which earned a great deal of cheers from the crowd. The majority of her songs were in Spanish with a few English lyrics thrown in and she spoke to fans in Spanish throughout the show.
While she didn’t speak directly to fans often, she made sure that when she did, she was speaking from the heart, providing fans with what feels like an intimate moment with their favorite artist. When introducing her song “High,” she revealed that she often writes music to help her process difficult times, but what usually ends up helping her heal is sharing it with fans and seeing them relate to her experiences.
María insisted that her hit song, “CORAZON VACIO” needed no introduction, but she wanted to introduce it anyways as it was a song that was very special to her. She went on to dedicate the song, which detailed the story of a person being left by someone they loved, to all the single mothers and kids who were left by a parent in the audience. It was clear that she was right about the song needing no introduction as she led fans to sing the last chorus, which they did, filling the venue with a chorus of heartbreak.
Before the show was set to end, María announced that they only had a few songs left, but that this was only their first notice, introducing her song “PRIMER AVISO” which roughly translates to first notice. María chose to end the show by singing a medley of her songs, leading up to a final bow that closed both the show and the U.S. leg of the tour.
