Denver Rain Stops Just for Arlo Parks

On a stormy August 8, Denver was drenched in rain but that didn't stop Arlo Parks from performing at the Denver Botanic Gardens as part of their Summer Concert Series. Right before Arlo’s set, the rain halted, appeasing Denver concert-goers and setting the tone for the cool and laid-back night ahead. The grassy slopes of the garden’s stage were covered with people on picnic blankets, lawn chairs, and cozy rain gear eager for the show to start. The English singer-songwriter, known for her soulful blend of indie pop and R&B, had fans sardined into the venue to bear witness to the artist’s talent firsthand.

As the first chords of Arlo’s opening song “Impurities” from her newest album, My Soft Machine, rang out over the loudspeakers, the crowd began to cheer. Emerging from the crowd, Arlo walked slowly down the slope leading to the stage singing to fans as she passed through them. As she ascended the steps up to the stage, fans roared with excitement and Arlo greeted them with her song.

Arlo took a few moments to connect with her audience. “This show is very special because tomorrow is my birthday,” she exclaimed, “so this is a birthday show!” Her fans cheered in response, happy to be a part of her special show. She explained that her next song, “I’m Sorry,”  was written about a time when she was putting up walls to shut people out and that it was for the people who softened them and got hurt in the process.

Arlo went on to perform songs like “Dog Rose” and “Weightless” and the fan favorite, “Too Good,” while dancing and running around the stage making sure to get all sides of the crowd. Giving each part of the theater special attention during songs created a harmonious and wholesome atmosphere for the cool summer night.

Arlo introduced her band thanking them for their artistry and support and also took time to thank her fans for all their love and support. “This is so beautiful,” said Arlo as she gestured to all the people on the grass and took in the gardens surrounding her. “This next song is important to me. This is ‘Black Dog.’” The crowd cheered while Arlo and her band went into their next set.

Arlo waved to her fans as she walked off the stage back up the grassy slope. Fans cheered as the band ended the set and beamed at the crowd with admiration.
