Three long years later, South Korea's superband, DAY6, finally returned to the stage on March 18 to welcome everyone to a brand new chapter in their musical journey. Their latest comeback Fourever is a seven-track mini album that marks the pop-rock band's first venture into a new storyline away from their The Book of Us series. Featuring their captivating signature sound, the title track “Welcome to the Show” joins a mix of pop-rock anthems and upbeat grunge-rock choruses to deliver a project that is the band's eighth mini-album.

Best known for writing the nation's beloved heartbreak anthem, “You Were Beautiful,” the four-member group has become a household name for their melancholic lyrics and soothing vocals over the past nine years since their debut in 2015.

The quartet was formed under JYP Entertainment's sub-label STUDIO J and is composed of members SUNGJIN (leader, main vocalist and lead guitarist), Young K (main vocalist, rapper and bassist), WONPIL (main vocalist, pianist and synthesizer), and DOWOON (drummer, vocalist and maknae). After completing their mandatory military service during a three-year hiatus, the band is back stronger than ever with their latest project, Fourever.

“Welcome to the Show”

An open invitation to the fans who have patiently waited for the group's comeback for years, “Welcome to the Show” is a post-Britpop anthemic opener that tells the story of a lover's promise to always be there to support their significant other if they're willing to take the leap. The music video features South Korean actors YOO SEUNG HO and CHOI HEE JIN as they fall in love behind the scenes of a stage production.

“HAPPY”

“May I be happy?” is a question that we often find ourselves asking at times of hardship. Throughout this pop-punk and alternative rock track, the band members too ponder the intricacies of life. All else aside, this song serves as a reminder that you are never alone.

“The Power of Love”

With an intro reminiscent of their fan-favorite track “days gone by,” this song fuses sounds of 80s synth-pop and hard rock that makes the listeners feel as if they have traveled back in time. As the saying goes “love conquers all,” “The Power of Love” delves into themes of love being the light in times of darkness.

“Get The Hell Out”

As the title implies, this track wanders through a more hardcore avenue – evident through DOWOON's skillful drumming — while incorporating sounds of grunge rock. Penned by SUNJIN, WONPIL and Young K, “Get The Hell Out” implores for the memories of a past lover to disappear as the members collectively chant “get the hell out” throughout the chorus in resentment of the broken relationship.

“Sad Ending”

“Sad Ending” is a high-energy pop-punk anthem, which sonically draws similarities to their 2018 B-side track “Talking to,” from their 2018 EP Shoot Me: Youth Part 2. Following the same notion of moving on from a relationship as track 4, the key point of the breakup song would be the angsty chorus that includes a sudden tempo switch from the verses. “Let's end it all // Let's kill it all // I'll take it all…,” YOUNG K vents in the last line of the song.

“Let Me Love You”

Following the energy from the previous tracks, the album leads into a slower-paced, affectionate pop ballad. “Let Me Love You” is a love letter that confesses that they will always be there in times of happiness and sadness. The track brings forth a similar sound to their B-side “Only” from their last release before the hiatus, The Book of Us: Negentropy - Chaos swallowed up in love in 2021.

“didn’t know”

As the show draws to an end and the curtain falls, DAY6 leaves the listeners on a more emotional note with the earnest lyrics of this rock ballad. “didn't know” acts as a longing confession to a past lover of the bygone days and how they failed to appreciate these moments and feelings when they were still together. “I was in love. We were in love,” WONPIL sings in the bridge.

Overall, Fourever acts as a testament to the band's ever-growing repertoire of heartfelt and timeless music that can be enjoyed by generations in years to come.
