VERIVERY Brings Fun and Games to Chicago Fans
VERIVERY is a seven-member K-Pop boy group, drawing inspiration from the Latin word ‘veri’ meaning truth, and the English word ‘very’ to show their real selves and various talents. The group is on its third world tour with three members currently enlisted in the military or on a temporary hiatus. The four youngest members Gyehyeon, Yeonho, Yongseung, and Kangmin brought the GO ON tour to Chicago on June 16.
The group started the show with “Crazy Like That” and “Tag Tag Tag.” Thanks to their energy and passion, the four members filled up the stage as if all seven were together. The group took a break from the setlist to play some games, starting with charades. Gyeheon and Kangmin were on one team with Yeonho and Yongseung making up the second. They each took turns acting out clues and sometimes getting hints from the fans. Although Yeonho and Yongseung won, they were stumped by one word having to ask their Chicago fans what Cloudgate is, leading to the entire audience shouting back “THE BEAN!” in response. After the game of charades, the guys played a dance-focused game where they had to guess the song title after hearing only one second of it. They would have to perform the choreography correctly to get the point if the song was guessed correctly. Answers included the K-Pop songs KISS OF LIFE’s “Midas Touch,” Stray Kids’ “S-Class,” and NCT Dream’s “Smoothie.” Since Yeonho and Yongseung won this game too, Gyeheon and Kangmin had to perform the viral dance break to Aespa’s “Supernova” as their punishment.
After the games, the members transitioned back into their setlist with the base-heavy “Wish U were here” and “FLOWER,” which featured simple styled, cute dance moves. The members held a Q&A session while they took turns going backstage to change. This led to them sharing fun facts with their fans such as how Kangmin’s biggest hobby is watching soccer, Yeonho is the best at girl group dances, Yongseung prefers to stay at home, and Gyeheon’s favorite SoundCloud track of theirs is “Broken.” The group sang “O” together before splitting into groups to perform duets. Kangmin and Yeonho sang an emotional rendition of Shawn Mendes’ “In My Blood” while Yongseung and Gyehyeon pumped up the crowd with Jung Kook’s “Standing Next To You.”
The members then took a break from their energetic performances to participate in a ‘member quiz’ where the MC would ask a member-specific question and the rest would write their answers on a whiteboard. This led to the group sharing that Yongseung’s goal while on tour is to learn to swim and that they’re all trying to help teach him. VERIVERY finished up their set with the song that gave them their first music show win “Tap Tap,” a lively cover of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful,” and their vocal forward ballad “With Us.” During the encore, the fans sang “Happy Birthday” to Yongseung as it was his 24th birthday. The members took requests from the crowd to perform “TRIGGER,” “Lay Back,” and "Skydive” as their final encore.
