VANNER Puts a K-Pop Spin on Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”
What is Christmas without a Christmas carol? Classic Christmas hits remain as popular today as when they were first released, with new renditions and variations over the years. Why wouldn’t there also be a K-Pop version then?
Mariah Carey’s three-decade-old classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” holds an undeniable charm that is hard to miss during the holiday season. As artists worldwide produce their rendition, each a shade apart from the last, K-Pop boy group VANNER offered their fresh take on the holiday classic.
VANNER members TAEHWAN and GON have participated in a global carol project by MF Entertainment. For the uninitiated, TAEHWAN is the group’s leader and lead vocalist and GON is an all-rounder who can dance, sing, and rap with equal ease. They have come together and added their spin on Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.
TAEHWAN serenades the listeners with his vocals, whereas GON adds a spicy dash of his self-written rap verses. Producer GLODY has arranged the song in a way that showcases VANNER’s unique style. The song features a lively guitar, chimes, and real brass music to add to the festive spirit. There’s also a sprinkle of saxophone that echoes the classical sentiment of the song.
The group recently won the survival show Peak Time, which has been instrumental in setting them on a path of newfound fame. VANNER’s rendition of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was released on December 16, 2023.
