On April 29, Japanese alternative metal band SiM (Silence iz Mine) took to the Summit stage in Denver, CO as part of their PLAYDEAD World Tour to promote their newest album PLAYDEAD. While SiM is described as a Japanese-reggae-punk-rock band and is known for their metal songs such as “Devil in Your Heart,” “SiCK,” and “EXiSTENCE,” they have also gained a following due to their collaboration with the famous anime, Attack on Titan. Having their song “The Rumbling” featured as the anime’s final season’s opening theme song and “Under the Tree” as the season’s ending theme song, SiM has gained an additional fan demographic. Anime fans and metal fans alike flocked to see SiM for their first time headlining a North American tour.

As the lights dimmed in the Denver venue the crowd cheered in anticipation for the band to take the stage. As the stage lights suddenly flicked on the SiM members, SiN, SHOW-HATE, and GODRi ran onto the stage from the shadows, adrenaline racing. One by one they charged the audience making their presence known and commanded that all eyes be on them. The crowd roared with excitement. Frontman MAH then burst from behind the stage sending the fans into even more of a frenzy. The members jumped around the stage in true rock band fashion demanding attention from their fans.

After kicking off their intro with high spirits and welcoming the fans thanking them for their support and for coming to their first headlining tour, SiM dove right into their set, launching into their song “DO THE DANCE.” Members jumped up and down, headbanged, and danced around the stage. MAH belted lyrics and demonstrated the iconic metal screaming vocal technique throughout their songs. SHOW-HATE and SiN displayed their guitar and bass talents while jumping around the stage while GODRi kept energy high on the drums in the back.

Fans jumped and pulsed with enthusiasm as SiM went into their next song, “BBT,” which provided fast-paced beats, heart-pounding bass, and catchy lyrics. The band continued to perform more songs from their new album such as “RED,” “SWEET DREAMS,” and “KISS OF DEATH.” They also performed older songs like “BASEBALL BAT” and “Devil in Your Heart” from their 2020 album THANK GOD, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF WAYS TO KiLL ENEMiES, “Blah Blah Blah” from their 2013 album PANDORA, and “T X H X C” from their 2008 self-titled album. No matter the song, the energy stayed high, and the band members’ adrenaline held strong.

Of course, the members gave the people what they wanted when they announced that the next and final song of the night would be “The Rumbling” from Attack on Titan. The crowd sang along to every word passionately as MAH presented the anime’s Survey Corps Salute to the crowd, truly giving his heart to their fans.

As the members thanked the Denver crowd for an unforgettable night and waved goodbye, the fans roared with admiration and chanted “ONE MORE SONG” over and over. SiM did not disappoint and reclaimed the stage to perform not only one more song but two more songs as an encore. They performed “KiLLiNG ME” from their 2011 album SEEDS OF HOPE and their 2013 single “f.a.i.t.h.”
