ONEUS Create a Winter Wonderland with 'Rupert’s drop'
After releasing a reprised version of “Now” by Fin.K.L and a stellar run on Mnet’s Road to Kingdom : Ace of Ace, five-member boy group ONEUS is back with a winter-themed single, “Rupert’s drop.” On December 4, ONEUS posted a small schedule for their upcoming events: a digital single released in December, a special album to be released in January, and a Seoul finale of their world tour to be held in February. The digital single released on December 9 and includes two tracks—”Rupert’s drop” and an instrumental version of the same song.

Taking inspiration from Prince Rupert’s Drop, ”Rupert’s drop” is a soft pop song expressing ONEUS’s connection with their fandom TO MOON. Member Seoho participated in writing the track, embedding the lyrics with love and appreciation from the members to their fans after almost six years of being a group. The chorus is filled with a sense of longing and earnest feelings; “Thousands and tens of thousands of times / when the tears I’ve held in touch you / the longing spreads, dazzlingly shines / it will connect us.” Similar to some of their past ballads like “Halley’s Comet,” this track shows off the group’s amazing vocals and really allows their talents to shine. While it’s not directly a Christmas song, “Rupert’s drop” is like a warm blanket in the winter—a perfect ballad for the winter season.
Accompanied by gentle guitar strumming, the members sing these heartfelt lyrics as snow falls from the sky, creating a snow globe type effect that continues throughout the music video. Since this song is a gift to their fans, it’s easy to assume that the bright lights in the background of the music video are a representation of the way fans look when holding ONEUS’s lightstick during concerts and performances. Amongst the snow, the members are also surrounded by a mass of flowers with a focus on white roses—symbolizing loyalty, eternal love, and new beginnings. The visualization of flowers blooming in the snow also shows this ideal of new beginnings, proving that the members have a lot in store for their fans in the upcoming months.
