Review: La Princesa de Miami, Mariah Angeliq, Releases New Single “Ricota”

Having made her debut in June 2018 with her first single, “Blah,” the 23-year-old artist Mariah Angeliq, “La Princesa de Miami,” has been climbing the Latin music charts. The Miami-born Urbano singer of Cuban and Puerto Rican descent began writing music when she was 16. Two years later, in 2018, she signed with industry powerhouse Universal Music Latino. Having garnered millions of fans on social media, Angeliq is one of the hottest Latin artists in the industry. She has performed at the 2021 Latin AMA’s and popular festivals such as the Mexican festival Tecate Pal Norte.

Furthermore, she has worked alongside well-known acts such as Myke Towers, One Republic, French Montana, KAROL G, Greeicy, and more. Her rise in the Latin music scene has not gone unnoticed. Having been listed as a Billboard Latin Artist on the rise and nominated for multiple awards, she is one of the most influential rising female artists in the Urbano genre. After releasing multiple singles and her album Normal in 2020, she has returned with her new single, “Ricota.”

Through Angeliq’s music, listeners can follow her journey through the ebbs and flows experienced in life: managing adulthood, relationships, and heartbreak. Coining herself “La Toxica,” she has redefined the word's negative meaning into a strong woman who does not let anyone stand in her way. Her music is a reflection of this, and “Ricota” is no exception. If you are not a fan of provocative lyrics, this may not be the track for your playlist. However, if you are in the market for a confidence-boosting song to hype you up, you may have found a new favorite.

Angeliq’s lyrics tell the story of an independent woman leaving men lovesick and not needing anyone to live her life or pay for her. She empowers herself by asserting her sexuality throughout this track. The song includes fierce, provocative lyrics supported by her smooth flow and backed by some rhythmic Reggaeton and R&B beats.

And not to mention, it seems the public concurs. The young artist decided to hit the streets of Miami to share her new single and capture people’s reactions on TikTok. Everyone agreed that the Reggaeton rhythmic beats are a big hit to dance to.
