Interview: Two, Three Minutes with Jinsol
It’s rare to hear about a fashion designer taking on the world of music. In most cases, it’s the other way around. It’s refreshing to see the tables turned, and South Korean fashion designer and now artist Jinsol was up for the challenge. Before picking up a pen and giving the music industry a shot, Jinsol was hard at work as a fashion designer, creating statement pieces under his jewelry brand OHTNYC. His work has been seen on major artists such as Doja Cat, Felix of Stray Kids, aespa, and many more. HALSUG had the opportunity to chat with Jinsol and get to know him more as an artist.
Creativity has been instilled in Jinsol since he was a child. “I’ve always loved creating and building things. My dad has always enforced being creative while I was growing up, and it just stuck.” With encouragement from his father, Jinsol had the freedom to find different avenues to express himself. Because of this, Jinsol could go after whatever his heart desired with no regret.
Taking risks is not new to Jinsol—as he took a leap of faith by moving to New York, building his fashion brand from the ground up to creating music. When asked if there was any hesitation, Jinsol stated, “I’ve made these major moves in my life due to the fact that I wanted to flip the situation that I was in. I wanted to do something bold, and moving to New York was doing just that. There was no hesitation at all. I just believed in myself and my dreams.”
Although his time in the industry as an artist is just beginning, Jinsol already has plans for where he wants to take his career. The shift into music has allowed Jinsol to show a side of him that others have yet to see. His ability to capture emotions in real-time through lyrics, melodies, and expression has encouraged him to be a bit more vulnerable and become a source of comfort to others. “I hope listeners and fans will be able to have joy and learn a new side of me from my music. I want to be able to establish a well-meaningful bond with my fans so that they can rely on my music during rough times.”
Jinsol’s latest single, “Minutes,” is a guitar lead track with a heavy bass that hits at the perfect time. The music then picks up in the chorus as if there was a sense of urgency for someone to give him a minute of their time. It’s honesty and relatability that will keep the listeners coming. As Jinsol continues to find his sound, “Minutes” tapped into the K-R&B genre. “I believe that “Minutes” is perfect to be on a K-R&B playlist. Some of the artists that I believe will go well on a playlist with “Minutes” are Crush, G-Soul, DPR Live, Dean, Suran, Kai, offonoff, and others within the same style.”
As Jinsol continues to release music, he looks forward to his career’s longevity and development, stating, “I want to work more on the production and the beats of my music as I grow. In general, I want my music to evolve to a point where I can look back and be proud of my progress and journey.”
We are excited to see Jinsol grow as an artist, and we can’t wait for more music to drop! Which song of Jinsol’s is your favorite? Let us know by leaving a comment below or sending us a tweet @halsugofficial.
