Review: BTS’ Jimin Sets His Emotions Free With A New Single
Park Jimin, a HYBE Label artist and member of the globally renowned South Korean Boy group BTS, released his new single “Set Me Free Pt.2” on March 18, which is also included on his first solo album FACE, released on March 24. The renowned artist showcases a new era embracing freedom and new beginnings. Jimin’s latest work marks his first solo project since BTS announced they were taking a break last year to focus, on their solo endeavors.
The much-anticipated song is an anthem highlighting another facet of the artist that fans and listeners have not yet seen. Jimin’s newest track highlights a more intense vibe with a darker concept and heavier rap sequences, striking a contrast with his past projects, which were comprised of lighter pop tracks.
The music video features mesmerizing choreography with a cohort of backup dancers surrounding Jimin, who takes center stage with a captivating aura. “Set Me Free Pt.2” includes invigorating instrumentals and versatile vocals backed with auto tune to create a cohesive and intense sound. Throughout the song, Jimin mentions not hiding anymore even if it hurts, alluding to freedom through the lyrics “날아가 (nalaga) butterfly,” which translates to “fly away, butterfly.” Butterflies commonly symbolize rebirth and transformation. Fans can see Jimin's unique artistry through his recent solo song. He clearly makes a statement with this single by providing a new sound and lyrics about autonomy and unapologetic self-expression.
