Interview: The Recipe Behind Sweet Love, Stories from Rain Wan
British-Chinese up-and-coming singer-songwriter Rain Wan has released her latest feel-good anthem single “sweet love.” The track explores different themes of young love and the many feelings of a new connection all mixed in with infatuation.

We had the pleasure of catching up with the talented Rain to discuss all things music. When asked about the story and concept behind “sweet love,” Rain shared how the creative process began.
“I knew I wanted to start off with the word ‘sweet,’ and the word ‘love’ just seemed to fit! As I started writing along to some chords, it made sense to surround the lyrics around sweet foods, desserts and all that goodness! Basically everything that tastes great and is not good for you (sorry not sorry!) into the song but still romanticizing love!”
Raised in the United Kingdom, a country known for producing some of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time, Rain took a lot of inspiration from her surroundings. Reflecting on her early influences, Rain explained how programs she would watch on TV such as X-Factor and The Voice played a pivotal role in shaping her musical goals and even some of her desired sound. When asked further about her decision to pursue a music career she added, “I’ve always loved how music had the power to bring people together through good and bad times. Since songwriting has been my way of expression, I wanted to have my songs where others could hopefully relate to, enjoy and make memories with!”
So far, Rain has released three amazing tracks including her latest release “sweet love” and “another day,” a soulful track that blends Rain’s wonderfully smooth vocals along with soft instrumentals. The song conveys the feelings of a bittersweet romance and feelings of love and longing. Lastly, her first release “cut me deep” is a more intimate and serene track that features her soulful vocals as it delves into that same theme of love and connection we have witnessed throughout her discography. When asked about the theme of love and why she decided to explore the topic so deeply, Rain shared “I love, love! It’s one of those topics that I feel like everyone can connect with at some point. There’s so much to draw inspiration from, it’s just so fun to write love songs!”
In comparison to her first two released tracks, “sweet love” brings a more upbeat and lighter vibe to Rain’s discography. To learn more about the process and decision behind this choice, we asked Rain to share a bit about her experience creating “sweet love” and how it differed from her previous two tracks, especially “another day.” Rain stated how a track like “another day” was "more emotional compared to ‘sweet love’ which meant that she had to be more intricate with the harmonies, melodies and music.” “Whereas for ‘sweet love,’ I knew I wanted it to be a badass beat and one that you could dance to, so we got to explore more bass-heavy instruments,” she adds. It is a more lively and fun beat that Rain believes starts to showcase a new and playful side of her music, not only to her but to her fans as well.
The path to becoming a singer-songwriter is never easy, yet it is one that many decide to pursue. It requires the ability to craft compelling and relatable stories but also the skill to connect deeply with an audience, making sure to leave just enough space for them to be able to see themselves within the created narrative. Especially when it comes to themes such as love and all that surrounds it.
Rain has so far excelled on her journey, showcasing remarkable talent as both a writer and performer. Looking back at the challenges within this journey, she shares a piece of advice she would give herself earlier which is to “trust the process and believe in yourself.” Rain further elaborates, “You’re going to have so many people tell you can’t or don’t do it, but you have to believe in yourself to the point that you’re going to do it anyway regardless of what others say!”
Overall, 2024 seems to have been an amazing year for Rain Wan. With 2025 just around the corner, we asked her about her goals for this upcoming year. She excitedly shared, “Let’s just say there’s more music, music, music!
