Interview: Jimmy Brown is “Typing…’’

We are excitedly counting down the days until we get to see Jimmy Brown with Rovv on the Like The First Time: North American Tour. Brown is an indie R&B singer-songwriter and producer from South Korea who has a growing fanbase around the world. His songs are all about love and expressing his emotions, and he’s very to the point with communicating his emotions with his undeniably raw, sexy, and sensual lyrics.

Gaining recognition by being featured on major global editorial playlists on Spotify and not to mention BTS’s Jimin listed Brown’s song “2 Things” on his favorites on Spotify, and girl group Red Velvet’s Wendy recommended his single “Irene” on her social media. Rovv, a contemporary hip-hop artist, is Brown’s close friend and has collaborated on many songs with him. Rovv and Brown released two albums together, including The Good Days Boys Playlist 1 and The Good Days Boys Playlist 2.

Last May, the R&B artists were disappointed when they had to postpone and reschedule the tour. But they swiftly announced the rescheduled 13 tour stops that will take place this November. Fans are filled with anticipation as they wait for the tour to begin in just two months!

From last May to now, the guys have been working hard with their team and partners to make this tour worthwhile. Since the tour announcement, Brown came out with his single “honest,” and collectively, he and Rovv have been continuously releasing songs together like “Hip Drive,” “Over And Over,” and “Typing….” In anticipation of the tour, HALSUG had the opportunity to ask Brown some fun questions for his first upcoming tour in North America.

Concerts are one of the most fun events to experience. For fans, they get to see the artists they love, hear the songs they have been playing on repeat, possibly discover a new artist, get to meet and create new friendships, and so much more. For the artists, concerts can be nerve-wracking to perform for the first time in new places, and it is an exciting and memorable experience to share their time and perform their discography for fans live. Finally getting to be on tour for the first time in North America, Brown said, “It’s surreal to go on a North American tour. It’s more than I wish for actually haha. We’re gonna have fun.

Connecting with fans is a huge thing that Brown is excited about in anticipation of the tour. He usually gets to talk to his fans on Instagram or other social platforms, but that’s not enough. Brown wants to be able to meet his fans, which is what he’s been waiting for. “It’s exciting to see them in person and feel their energy.” It’s definitely a different feeling being in person in that setting with your fans where you can truly cherish the moment.

As the R&B artist has had a successful time touring before in Europe, we asked him about tour life. Must-have items that Brown will be bringing are a sleeping mask and earplugs. Getting enough rest during a tour is essential for artists. “We need to rest between shows, so sleep is essential. And a gym as well.

Not only is rest essential but finding and trying new food from all the different cities is fun. Brown said he’d like to eat healthy with salads and apples for breakfast. But he also wants to try some delicious burgers. Fans make sure to send the best burger place recommendations his way.

Some artists have backstage rituals that they do before every show starts, although Brown said he doesn’t. “No, I feel hella nervous, so I’m just praying that it all goes well [laughs]. Oh…I do some pushups though.

When asked what his favorite song on the setlist is to perform, he said, “Oh, this is the hardest to answer. I’ll save it for later haha.” So, no spoilers for now, but that’s okay because it only increases our curiosity and excitement about what will be performed during the tour.

Brown wanted to send a message to his fans saying, “Thank you so much for showing up and showing love. Every single one of you means the world to me. Thank you for existing.” In three words, Brown described what the tour will be: “Dreams come true.
