Denver Welcomes PIAO: A Charismatic Opening for Mariana’s Trench


On October 15, opening for the Canadian pop-rock band, Mariana’s Trench on their THE FORCE OF NATURE TOUR, PIAO took the stage at Denver’s Summit Music Hall. With her contagious energy, she captivated the audience from the moment she stepped on stage, leaving a lasting impression on Denver concertgoers. Her performance set the perfect tone for the night, getting the crowd fully charged and ready for the night of music ahead.

PIAO is a Chinese-Canadian pop/R&B singer who graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music and has made a name for herself in the industry. She has accomplished many musical feats and reflects a lot of her self-discovery and identity through her music. Beginning earlier this fall, PIAO has accompanied Mariana’s Trench on tour as one of their openers, complementing and contrasting the band’s pop-rock sound with her blend of Chinese pop and American R&B styles.

The rising star kicked off the night with her dynamic set mixed with upbeat hits and heartfelt ballads that showcased her vocal versatility and emotional depth. Her ability to switch between high-energy tracks and introspective melodies kept the audience engaged, making each moment of her performance memorable. The crowd was especially moved by the soulful delivery of her songs like “pagingbubu” which added a layer of authenticity to her performance.

PIAO’s connection with the audience was honest and wholesome. She expressed her gratitude for being able to perform on this tour and for all the support she has received. She told personal anecdotes of her life and explained why each song was important to her. Her song “Haunted by Potential” resonated deeply with listeners, capturing her emotions and exploring themes of introspection and inward reflection.

Aside from her emotional ballads, PIAO performed upbeat and catchy songs that had the crowd dancing along soaking up her infectious enthusiasm. She showcased unique and dynamic choreography as she performed tracks like “Neopet,” “Gum,” and her newest single, “flip phone,” incorporating playful movements that mirrored the catchy beats. The audience couldn't help but join in, mirroring her energy and enthusiasm as they swayed, twirled, and cheered along. 

As the night went on, PIAO’s performance only gained momentum, and by the end of her set, the audience was left buzzing with excitement. Closing her set with her fun and lively track “Hannah Montana,” PIAO had the audience singing and dancing along, creating an electrifying atmosphere that left everyone exhilarated as she wrapped up her performance on an unforgettable high note. PIAO made it clear that she had made a significant impact, not just as an opener but as a standout performer in her own right.

As PIAO continues to rise in the music scene, her unique fusion of Chinese pop and American R&B sets her apart, offering something fresh and exciting to fans. Her set not only warmed up the audience for the headliners but also introduced many to her distinct sound, likely gaining her new followers in the process. With each performance, PIAO proves she’s an artist to watch, bringing emotional resonance to the stage, and her Denver appearance was no exception.
