Indie pop-rock band DARIU makes a ferocious return to the music scene with their latest single, “ANIMAL,” marking the band’s transition into the dynamic world of dark pop. After years of challenges and hiatus, this new track signifies a rebirth—a statement of resilience and a declaration of their unapologetic identity.

A Dark and Electrifying Sound

“ANIMAL” is a fusion of intense energy, shadowy vibes, and raw emotion, drawing inspiration from the provocative styles of Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga. With haunting beats and aggressive rhythms, the track introduces the dark pop genre to both Indonesia and the global indie scene.

“I’m alive, know that I’ll survive, I don’t have to try, like “ANIMAL,” sings frontman Dary encapsulates the song’s central theme of survival against all odds. The lyrics evoke an animalistic instinct, empowering listeners to embrace their strength and fight through life’s darkest moments.

A Message of Defiance and Rebirth

DARIU is no stranger to adversity. Over the years, they have faced criticism, lineup changes, and an unpredictable indie music landscape. “We’ve endured insults and doubts about our music,” the band shares. “But with ‘ANIMAL,’ we’re showing the world that we’ve evolved. We’re here, stronger, and hungrier than ever. Like it or not, DARIU will always be in your ears.”

Evolving with Dark Pop

“ANIMAL” is a bold departure from DARIU’s earlier sound. The track features primal lyrics like:
“On the hunt, you’re my prey, and your heart on my plate; carnivore animal, imma do Dahmer, babe.”
It’s a visceral anthem that immerses listeners in a cinematic horror atmosphere. Perfect for Halloween playlists or horror movie soundtracks, the song balances its edgy energy with an intense sense of vitality.

The band describes “ANIMAL” as both a reflection of their personal growth and a bridge to a more mature, fearless era of music. It’s a declaration of their transition from being indie rock darlings to dark pop pioneers.

From Local Stages to Global Aspirations

Since forming in 2017, DARIU has been a staple in Indonesia’s indie scene. The band gained attention with their 2019 single “GONE” and their rock hit “And That’s Okay,” which held a spot on Spotify’s Cadas Bergema playlist for four months. They’ve also triumphed at various music festivals, including winning 1st place at the Alternative Fest Vol. 1 in Subang.

Now, with “ANIMAL,” DARIU seeks to captivate a global audience. Their new motto, God’s Favorite Pop Band,” reflects their unshakable confidence and mission to redefine what indie music can be.
