A Sea of Emotions: wave to earth at the Wiltern

The night started with two musicians plugging in their instruments amidst the heavy fog. Fans screamed as they thanked everyone for a sold-out show. The band introduced themselves as PRYVT, a K-Indie band who debuted very recently in August 2023. Haneul and Justin played their hit singles “blue salvia” and “tell me, will we survive?,” among others. As a special preview, the two even played their unreleased song (at the time), “YOURS.”

After everyone’s swaying hands went down, the crowd was warmed up and ready for the next part of the show. Five figures made their way through the darkness to which the audience could not contain their excitement. Suddenly, the stage lights turned on, heavily backlighting the band during their first song, “play with earth!” The lead singer Daniel Kim and bassist John Cha put on a spectacular performance to get the crowd hyped.

It wasn’t even a second until the crowd recognized and sang to their next song “peach eyes” from their previous album 0.1 flaws and all. wave to earth did a marvelous job with how they organized their set list as it was very diverse in terms of energy and emotion.

Transitioning from their upbeat songs, the band started playing their calmer pieces such as “slow dive” and “ocean floor.” To make the night more interesting, wave to earth explained they wanted to honor their roots by playing their debut single “wave.” The band put a different spin on it, slowing down the song’s tempo and emphasizing more of the vocals than the version that is found on their albums.

The performance could only be described as angelic. Daniel Kim drew out his falsettos in such a captivating way, with the blue lights turning into a white spotlight during his high notes. Sniffles could be heard from fans in the audience from the sheer beauty of his voice. Without a doubt, this portion of the concert was absolutely heart wrenching.

Ending the song, wave to earth made some last remarks regarding their beginnings. Unfortunately, the night had to come to an end. The band announced their last song of the night, “beck.” With the sound of the guitar’s final strum dampening, wave to earth waved their goodbyes and walked off-stage.

Although their performance was finished, the crowd wasn’t. Yelps and cheers boomed from the audience, chanting the phrase, “One more song! One more song!” With all the energy emanating from the venue, wave to earth couldn’t let it all be for nothing. The band came back to play two of their most popular songs, “seasons” and “love.” Everyone was singing along, with no lyric left unheard. Wrapping everything up, wave to earth closed their concert with their instrumentals “pink” and “are you bored?” As fans were left starstruck, the band made a final bow to the audience. Truly, this concert was a night to remember.
