A Lesson in Love Alchemy: Rakiyah’s Korean Comeback With “Ready or Not”
The love alchemist of R&B music has returned with her latest single “Ready or Not” released on Thursday, February 15.
Serving as Rakiyah’s first comeback of 2024, this supernatural single highlights our R&B scientist’s desperation for truth, desire, and clarity. When your heart is in pain, you would cross the mountains to find its remedy. With unrequited love taking its toll, Rakiyah uses her vocals to heal your soul. “Ready or Not” is filled with a sense of nostalgia and mysticism, with an added touch of intoxicating lyricism through an addictive Korean verse.
American R&B singer-songwriter, producer, and lyricist Rakiyah Nadia Wright goes by Rakiyah in her professional life. She studied as an undergraduate aerospace engineer at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, New Jersey. Rakiyah became interested in studying Korean during her early undergraduate education when a colleague showed her the popular Korean drama Boys Over Flowers.
Rakiyah started her YouTube channel Rakiyah In Space in 2016 to provide Korean language study tips. In early 2017, she was awarded study abroad scholarships to study as an exchange student for a semester at South Korea's prestigious Hanyang University. She returned to Hanyang University for a second time, from September 2018 to June 2019; however this time, she chose to focus on her musical career.
Under the stage name Rakiyah Nadia, she released her debut EP Alter Ego in 2018. After recording her second EP Mango Tree, she changed her stage name to ‘Rakiyah’ and also released her third EP HIM while studying in South Korea the next year.
On October 23, 2020, Rakiyah debuted her first English/Korean R&B track, "Like You.” On January 5, 2021, she released the EP Into The Cosmos.
